Intro to Puppetry

Tuesdays: November 15th - December 6th at 1:00pm-4:00pm
Let's explore puppetry! In this four week course, students will explore the building of puppets and the magic of bringing inanimate objects to life. Students will have the opportunity to construct shadow, hand and rod puppets, learn strategies for manipulation and explore origins and traditions of puppetry. Looking to discover some new skills, make new friends and build some puppets along the way? This class is for you. No previous experience required.
The components of Intro to Puppetry are: Puppet Construction, Puppet Manipulation, Puppet Exploration, and Puppet History and Traditions.
Puppet Construction: Students will practice building puppets. Students will construct a glove puppet and create shadow puppets.
Puppet Manipulation: Students will learn how to use breath, weight and focus to bring inanimate objects to life. Students will practice manipulating various types of puppets.
Puppet Exploration: Students will collaborate in the creation of short puppet scenes and sketches.
Puppet History and Traditions: Students will learn about the origins of puppetry and traditional practices which inform puppetry today.
